Arcti Industrial for Industrial Heritage, Museums and Visitor Centres
Large luminous forms that interpret machinery, energy and industrial history while remaining lightweight, reversible and adaptable to public exhibition programmes.
The Application Challenge
Industrial heritage halls have extraordinary scale but often lack a contemporary visual focus. Heavy equipment, preserved structures and long spans make conventional exhibition construction difficult. New interventions must respect the building, meet public-venue requirements and remain serviceable despite high mounting positions.
The Arcti Industrial Solution Approach
Translate a process, product or industrial symbol into a simplified luminous volume. The form can hover above retained machinery, create a visual axis through the hall or mark the transition from historic production to current technology. Segmented construction allows the object to enter through normal access routes and be assembled under the approved lifting plan.
Recommended Design Priorities
· Interpretive clarity: simplify the industrial reference so the form reads at long distance without becoming a literal oversized prop.
· Existing-building interface: survey trusses, cranes, gantries, protected fabric, access routes and permissible loads.
· Public-space compliance: coordinate flame documentation, egress, barriers, signage, emergency lighting and supervised interaction.
· High-level maintenance: locate drivers, blowers and control equipment where technicians can safely reach them.
· Future exhibitions: preserve the option to change colour scenes, graphics or selected modules without replacing the whole system.
Representative Case Configuration
Illustrative case: turbine-hall visitor centre “Energy Flow”. The values below communicate scale, interfaces and customer value. They are illustrative planning values, not a completed-project claim or substitute for an approved engineering sheet.
Parameter | Representative planning value |
Hall | Approx. 85 × 26 m former generating hall; 22 m clear height |
Illustrative package | 1 × 14 m segmented spiral form above retained machinery |
Lighting | Zoned RGB+W, total 2.2–3.0 kW |
Control | Architectural scenes plus timed interpretation sequence |
Installation | Six transported modules, assembled at floor level and lifted to approved truss points |
Customer value | A difficult high-bay void becomes the visual story linking industrial heritage and future energy |
Customer Value Delivered
· Creates a contemporary icon while allowing the historic building and machinery to remain visible.
· Uses low packed volume and segmented assembly to work within constrained heritage access.
· Adds interpretive sequencing through light without installing a permanent video wall.
· Supports programme refresh through control scenes and replaceable selected surfaces.
From Concept to Deployment
1. Confirm narrative, facility owner, structure, access and environmental conditions.
2. Develop segmented geometry and all power, air, controls and lifting interfaces.
3. Approve facility risk controls, materials, redundancy, service access and responsibility matrix.
4. Factory test modules, connectors and controls and issue installation/lift documentation.
5. Commission the asset into facility inspection, spares and fault-response routines.
Customization Options
· Geometry based on turbine flow, molecule, product section, process diagram or site archive.
· Printed technical linework, translucent gradients or neutral diffusion depending the interpretive concept.
· Audio, sensor or media-server interface prepared in coordination with the exhibition integrator.
· High-bay service kit with remote diagnostics points, spare modules, lowering plan or lift-access instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can it be installed above historic machinery?
Potentially, but the survey and lift plan must protect the artefacts and confirm structure, clearances, falling-object controls and maintenance access.
Is it suitable for a public museum if it was designed for industry?
The IND designation refers to scale and integration. Public-venue materials, egress and visitor safety still require project-specific review.
Can the light tell a process story?
Yes. Zoned control can represent stages or flows, provided the sequence is developed with the interpretive designer and remains understandable rather than purely decorative.
